Kiss me if you can Volume 2 – Chapter 6

Translator/Editor : Léabyss

Instantly, they couldn’t understand what had happened. Josh had already started the car when Mark hurriedly drew his gun. One after another, the woman drew the gun from her arms. Standing in front, the cannon aimed at them was clear. Mark quickly opened the window and tried to shoot him. However, Josh straightened the wheel and cut him off.

“Aah!”

“Oh shit …! Son of a bitch, do you want to die …?”

Chase, who was sitting in the back seat, uttered a soft curse.

Mark looked at him hastily, but he wasn’t fully conscious yet. When he saw Chase, rubbing his forehead like he had a headache, the car body shook a lot again.

“What are you doing, Josh ?!”

Mark, who hit the car door, also screamed. Josh responded quickly without looking back.

“Don’t roll down the window. It must be an ambush.”

“What?”

“It’s so obvious. Getting caught up in this shallow trick!”

Josh gritted his teeth and quickly backed the car. The car behind did the same, and was embarrassed by the unexpected situation.

“What, that bastard turned around?” shouted Henry, who was sitting in the driver’s seat, embarrassed. However, with no time to move hurriedly, Josh had already passed their car by simply reversing.

“What is it, what the hell.”

He looked from side to side in a torrent of insults, but had no time to do anything. Immediately several people appeared, hiding on the side of the road. Henry’s eyes widened in surprise.

“What are …”

Soon after, they began firing rifles. Bullets splashed all over the car and a loud noise came from everywhere.

“Argh!”

Laura’s scream sounded from the car. Isaac screamed, running out the car window.

“Seth!”

But there was no time to go to the rescue. Henry glanced back hastily and gave another round of insults. It was after Josh had already walked away.

“Open the sunroof, please” Isaac said in a quick tone.

Henry pressed the button and immediately tried to back up. Isaac poked his head over the sunroof, being careful not to lose his balance. The armed men came into view. Then the shrill shots began to be heard from side to side.

✤✤✤✤✤✤

“… Argh!”

“Ah! Josh man! Argh!”

Screams and more screams came from all over the seat.

“Crazy bastard driving, how… are you…?”

Chase gritted his teeth, but the way he spoke seemed like he was still in limbo. Regardless of his reaction, Josh zigzagged violently with the steering wheel. Thanks to the bullets flying everywhere, he couldn’t escape like this forever. Fortunately, Henry and Isaac started covering for him and Josh was able to take some time off. As soon as he barely tried to slow the car down, a black shadow suddenly rushed up behind.

“Josh!” exclaimed the startled Mark.

It was a truck that was stopped on the shoulder  as it passed. As soon as the huge truck came into view, Josh braked and simultaneously hit the wheel to the limit.

“…!”

A shrill sound of scraping the road along with a scream echoed in the eardrum. The vehicle was spinning frantically, drawing random skid marks. Even though he was wearing a seat belt, he struck the body mercilessly. He was mad. But Josh gritted his teeth and turned the wheel around and around, alternating between the gas and the brakes. The barely balanced vehicle stopped briefly and soon changed direction and began to run.

“Bitch, that bastard is crazy!”

Henry screamed when he saw the vehicle go. But now he couldn’t run. When Henry saw the car accelerating to tremendous speed in an instant, he braked and stopped behind. Immediately a huge truck appeared. He changed gears again and the car moved forward. Isaac, who threw an empty cartridge, screamed as he replaced it with a new one.

“Go straight!”

Isaac pulled the trigger in turn. The man who was shooting fell screaming. Two more fell one after another, and three others also fell back. Still, Henry gritted his teeth to speed them up as they continued firing without giving up.

“I’m going to destroy them all, you bastards. Let’s avenge Seth’s enemy!” Isaac answered upstairs to Henry’s cry.

“Seth, you are not dead yet.”

“If you touch someone, they’ll be killed, you idiot bastard.”

Henry gritted his teeth. Isaac glanced over to the driver’s side where he was sitting and then rolled his eyes again. Seth was leaning against the side of the car to avoid being shot. He had knocked out the couple who cheated on them amid the confusion, but they seemed like too many. We need to end this situation quickly. Take care of the remaining three, and then …

When he thought so far, suddenly a tremendous horn sounded. The truck behind him honked.

“Oh shit!” Henry hit the gas with a curse. Laura also squealed, closed her ears, and snuggled up.

In an instant, the car slowed and Isaac slipped and sank into his seat. That was not the end. Henry’s eyes were discolored, as if headlights were suddenly on.

“Henry?”

Isaac called his name urgently. But Henry seemed completely gone. He was still holding the wheel, but it didn’t mean much. Surprised by the wavering body of the car, Isaac hurriedly tried to move to the front seat. At that moment Henry turned his head and suddenly began to strangle Isaac. Laura screamed when she saw him.

✤✤✤✤✤✤

“…!”

Things were worse for Josh’s car. A tremendous sound coming from behind made the brain shudder completely. Mark, who covered his ears in surprise, swallowed his breath. Josh, who had to drop his helpless ear because he was gripping the wheel, almost came to a stop. Fortunately, he didn’t take his foot off the gas, but Henry seemed to have been affected. Suddenly, he was about to cause a collision with the car in front, which was braking. Josh managed to avoid the accident by turning the wheel quickly, but it just skimmed the bumper.

“… You know… just.” Mark’s sound spread from ear to ear. The horn blared again. This time it was endless.

A vehicle that used to be a bait appeared before my eyes. If so, it will crash as is. But when he changed lanes, Henry’s car got in the way.

“What are those bastards doing?” Said Mark, who saw the car lean. Frowning, trying to see the situation in the car, Laura suddenly called.

[Mark, we’re in trouble! Mark, we’re in trouble! Henry’s condition is strange now, Isaac and aah!]

With a yell, he dropped his cell phone. It was soon followed by a scream and a thud. Mark was furious, but this was not the time to scream. The truck came very close. Josh gritted his teeth and quickly turned the wheel. If you lose sight of Henry’s vehicle, which had slowed significantly, it entered a rift. He managed to escape the decoy that was parked, but there was no time for a sigh of relief

“Oh shit…”

Mark uttered another curse. A huge car the same size as a truck coming from behind was racing on the opposite side. At this rate, it was clear that they would be stuck or crushed between the two trucks. Mark tried to publicize the situation in a hurry. But Josh’s ears filled with tinnitus and he heard nothing. Mark yelled impatiently, beckoning him. When the car parked in front of him came up to his eyes, Josh screamed.

“Wait man!”

At the same time, he turned the wheel all the way in one go. The car, with a great turn, flew in the air for a moment. Mark crouched over Chase. Josh gripped the steering wheel hard and hit the gas to the limit. The wheels spun wildly in the air, pushing the heavy body away. A few seconds of flight felt too long. Then a moment later the car sank to the ground with a loud sound. The sand dust flew in all directions, creating whirlwinds. As he was, Josh sped down the dirt road. A truck rattled behind him. The hustle and bustle of the car body didn’t matter. Josh gritted his teeth and ran, changing gears. Somehow they had to get out of the way. How?

At that moment, the truck door opened and a man leaned out of the passenger seat. When Josh saw the machine gun in his hand, he was about to warn when the man started firing. The bullet-proof vehicle shook violently with a loud noise. Josh quickly turned the wheel, but it wasn’t as easy to change direction as it was on a smooth road.

“Think think.”

Josh repeated the same words as if he was spanking himself. There was not much time. At this rate they will approach us from the rear if that happens.

“Josh, C is in a weird state!”

It took some time to think about it. Soon Josh went to court and screamed.

“Bow your head down!” He drew his pistol and fired at the rear glass without hesitation. The glass was smashed by a series of bullets and spilled onto Mark and Chase’s crouched back. Josh immediately turned the wheel the other way. The shooting, which had spilled onto the body of the vehicle, was briefly stopped. Josh yelled again.

“Mark!”

“Okay.”

He straightened up and pointed the pistol. Taking advantage of a moment that the vehicle was following him, he aimed precisely at the wheels of the truck. He did not know which of the six consecutive shots he hit. However, it was clear that the wheel exploded with a ghastly sound like a gunshot. A man half reaching and shooting with a yell, he bounced. The driver hurriedly looked at the steering wheel, but there was no way. Leaving the roaring dump truck behind, Josh made it as fast as he could.

“… fuck, fuck!”

Just when he thought he had made it out of the crisis, Josh hit the wheel with abusive language. Mark looked at him in surprise at the unusual behavior.

“The oil is leaking. It won’t last that long.”

Navigation didn’t work either. It was acceptable that the car will move forward, but it won’t last long. Shortly after, a warning sound began to sound, saying there was not enough fuel. And the car stopped.

✤✤✤✤✤✤

There were not few places where trees grew in the desolate wasteland with sparse grass, but it was shameful to call it a forest. Since it had not rained properly for several years, forest fires had occurred frequently and helicopters had been seen putting out the fire. But not today.

“Dammit!” Josh didn’t hold his temper and kicked the innocent tire. Of course, that didn’t change anything. He looked everywhere but didn’t feel any sign of people at all.

“Shut up …”

“Hey, calm down.” It was when Mark comforted Josh, who was sobbing with a sigh.

Chase stumbled out the door and leaned against the car. When the blue face was deemed unusual, it suddenly started to shrink and it made him nauseous.

“woo wook”.

A series of anguished groans came out, but nothing else came out. Josh looked at him regretfully as he spat out only saliva mixed with sour gastric juice, one after another.

After a long time, Chase seemed to have calmed down, but this time he couldn’t move with his eyes closed, leaning against the door like he was dizzy. Josh felt a little sorry. Rather than apologize or comfort him, he quietly opened the car refrigerator door and took out the bottled water. When he forcefully lifted the lid, Chase, who had been breathing heavily until then, narrowed his eyes. The pale, tired face that looked up at him was still striking, apart from the anguish. Also, the wet eyes, which complained to tears, made Josh’s guilt multiply. Josh silently drew out only bottled water again. Chase, who normally would have cursed and jumped, just looked at him now. Like he doesn’t have the energy. The evidence was that he sighed briefly and drank the bottled water. Josh watched silently as he bent his neck, up and down the groove, swallowing water. Only after emptying an entire bottle of water did Chase pull the bottle out of his mouth with a sigh.

Stealing the wet lips with the back of his hand, he held out an empty bottle as if it were fact. Josh picked it up and tossed it into the car at random. Only then did Chase seem to have regained consciousness a little. When Josh felt a strange sense of regret and relief, Mark opened his mouth.

“We can’t go any further.”

“I know it when I see it, you idiot.”

Chase is certainly back to normal. Fortunately, Josh’s guilt was immediately removed by the incessant gnashing of his teeth. Mark spoke coldly.

“I’ll tell you one thing, but the choice right now is. Either we wait here to come to the rescue, or we go out to find a way.”

Mark looked at Josh.

Josh spoke to him in a professional manner.

“The water is enough for a day or two.”

He was going to rest in the car at night and tell them to move when the day comes. Of course, this is when Chase decides to walk in search of the road. Of course, his choice was one.

“Are you telling me to walk recklessly, not knowing the right path? Are you crazy, you son of a bitch?”

Mark and Josh fell silent simultaneously. Anguished Chase swore again and rubbed his eyes with one hand. As he watched silently, he growled under his breath and pulled a black cigarette case from the inside pocket of his jacket. As they took a few steps away and watched his back light a cigarette, the two turned their heads silently.

He looked everywhere but didn’t feel any signs of being people at all. Mark sighed.

“What do I do with this?”

When he saw him suddenly distort his eyebrows, Josh looked at him puzzled. Mark held up a hand like he was fine.

“I guess I’m getting dizzy. It’s been a long time since I’ve had such a good time.”

“Wow,” he said seriously again, with exaggerated exclamations.

“I can’t keep doing this anyway, I’ll have to find my way and get out.”

“You will have to walk quite a bit.”

“But what can I do, someone has to go ask for help.”

Josh was careful because he couldn’t do anything else, so he had to accept it. Mark nodded and opened his mouth.

“Maybe C’s manager is out of our reach now, so she must have done something. Maybe she sent a search party…. First you stay here and protect C. I’m sure there’s still medicine… You’ll be fine?”

Mark looked at Chase with a puzzled look. He was still alone, only smoking. Josh said, “Well, I don’t know.”

Mark shrugged, “I have no choice.”

After a short discussion, Mark opened the refrigerator in the car to bring water and a simple snack. Of course Josh and Chase dropped their part too

“Well, you should be careful too.”

” If you too. “

After wishing each other safety, Mark turned first. After that, Josh was left alone with Chase.

Josh jumped into the driver’s seat when he saw Mark pull away as far as he could. Suddenly, from behind came Chase’s voice.

“What are you doing? You said you couldn’t use a car,” he was standing next to him. Josh looked at him and answered mechanically.

“Yeah, but I was wondering if something was working. It’s probably a rescue request for an emergency.”

He checked its status by pressing the buttons around it. As he was stroking the monitor for a test, thankfully the screen flickered. It wasn’t perfect, but it seemed useful. Josh worked the blinking screen patiently. Chase looked at Josh with an irritating face as he raised his head after setting the signal that gradually came and went. Josh opened his mouth.

“We have sent the signal, so if someone detects it, they will come for help.”

“What?”

“…”

Josh tried to explain this and that emergency system, but soon gave up on the idea. He was also upset and tired.

“Anyone will come.”

“…”

Chase, who had not spoken for a moment at the insincere response, began kicking and hitting the car with a series of insults. Since it was already scraped and it wasn’t his own car anyway, Josh left it alone until he left because he was tired.

He misses Pete especially today.

✤✤✤✤✤✤

When it was completely dark, an icy wind blew and the temperature dropped sharply. Josh found the blanket when he opened the trunk. Despite the expectation, there wasn’t much to use except a few tools. Fortunately, there was a blanket inside. Josh, who inadvertently shook his shoulders, grabbed the end of the blanket and immediately unfolded it, then put it in his arms and walked over to Chase. When Chase opened the door on the side where he was sitting and looked inside the car, he immediately glanced at Josh. Josh spoke, pulling out a blanket.

“Cover yourself, it will be cold.”

As he said, there were only sparse trees and grasses, but the cold winds blew as soon as the sun set on the desolate plain. It was clear that if left unchecked, the body temperature would drop, but the only way to do that was to snuggle up in the car with a blanket. Even so, the rear window of the car broke and the wind blew in. But Chase just looked at the blanket and turned his head again. Josh stared at him silently, turned and unfolded the blanket tightly. He could feel Chase looking at him. He put a blanket over his shoulder as if he didn’t know.

“Ha,” Chase said, downcast from behind. Josh ignored it and enjoyed the warmth of a layer of fabric overlay. When he exhaled, it made a white breath and then disappeared. Suddenly, a strange sound came from behind Josh’s back, who frowned. He listened silently and looked back. Chase, whose jacket was all he had on top of a thin shirt, blew into it.

“Shit.”

He brushed his hair back with a low curse. The long, graceful fingers were white and trembled slightly. Chase bit his lip, turned his head, then looked Josh in the eye.

“…”

“…”

The two looked at each other for a moment without saying a word. Josh was just staring at Chase’s pale face from the cold as the color slowly rose. Chase wrapped a hand around his mouth and finally his entire face flushed. A ruthless wind swept the flushed man away. The flamboyant blonde ruffled over his clean forehead, causing the skin under his eyes to blush more. The blinking purple eyes seemed to move to the side in embarrassment, and the long lashes flicked over them. Josh, who was following the line that flowed from the end of his well-lined nose to his lips, had no choice but to remove the blanket from his shoulder and hand it over as soon as he saw a shaky breath flow through the opening.

This man will eat well and live well for the rest of his life with just his face. What good is personality? Josh really thought that. He is the only warm person who has been covering his shoulders without hesitation. Chase didn’t refuse this time. Of course, he doesn’t take it willingly. On his shoulders, looking only away, Josh silently covered him with a blanket. He didn’t forget to wrap it half a turn under his neck like he did with Pete. Only then did Chase’s face faintly feel the heat and the tremors subsided. Holding the blanket effortlessly, he comfortably leaned his back on the seat. The moment Josh saw it, he hesitated. Wait, is he hurt? He realized late, but it was too late. A Chase chained to the back of the passenger seat closed his eyes as if to show his long lashes.

“Close the door, you useless bastard.”

“…”

Josh obeyed him silently.

The cold wind blowing through his back felt even more fragile.

✤✤✤✤✤✤

About an hour later he opened his eyes to the cold that suddenly passed through his entire body.

Josh, who sat in the driver’s seat and slept well, blinked and looked at the watch on his wrist. Soon after, when he rolled his eyes and looked at the rescue signal reflected on the monitor, it blinked fainter than before. The signal, which glowed like a firefly and then disappeared, did not appear again for quite some time. Whoo, sighing. Looking back, Chase was burying himself deep into the seat with his eyes closed. Are you asleep? That could be better. Josh held on to a slight push as he nearly swept the hair that had fallen over his pale forehead. When I looked down from the long shadowed lashes, the parted lips came into view. Staring at his profile for a while, Josh quietly got out of the car.

“…! “

A gale of wind hit the entire body. The car with the broken glass was also quite cold, but it was no match for him to face the night breeze with his naked body. It brought him to his senses. This is not the time to be mesmerized by Chase’s face. Josh flinched once before rushing to take his place. Somehow he has to raise his body temperature. He immediately used a very simple and familiar method. He immediately fell to the ground and began to do push-ups.

“… 99, 100”.

After waving his arms like crazy and filling in the numbers in an instant, he jumped to his feet. The back of his back was on fire and his whole body heated up. He felt like the cold was finally gone. With his hair disheveled, he shook his head sharply and then ran back to his place. As he kept moving to keep his body temperature barely elevated, he suddenly felt strange. When he turned his head, he was suddenly met by Chase, who opened his eyes.

“…”

The pace slowed and soon Josh stopped. A cold wind passed his ears.

“…”

“…”

For a moment, the two of them said nothing. The expression of Chase looking at him seemed to be pity for him, for which Josh was embarrassed. He scratched his head awkwardly and smiled. Then Chase frowned. Josh soon turned his face away, but it was too late.

“What’s funny, you son of a bitch?”

Josh was tired of apologizing, so he shut up. He rolled his eyes back and moved to raise his body temperature, and Chase, who was looking at him, opened his mouth.

“What are you doing now?”

“Don’t you know? I’m running because I’m cold.”

Naturally, it became a direct comment, but Josh didn’t bother to correct it. What was interesting was Chase’s reaction. It was only for a short time, but he hesitated. As embarrassed. No way, Josh thought. What’s the use of being embarrassed by that guy? He kept exercising, ignoring Chase. Chase didn’t like it at all.

“Listen.”

“…”

“Son of a bitch, can’t you hear me?”

Finally, he opened the car door and dropped an empty water bottle that was rolling on the floor, forcing Josh to stop moving and look at him.

“What is it?”

Josh tried not to hide his anger. Chase opened his mouth but said nothing. That was one of the reasons it caught his attention. It was just unpleasant to deliberately ignore him. Josh scowled at Chase, who hesitated because he had nothing to say. Chase didn’t lose his reaction.

“Just you, do you have something to say?”

Josh wanted to tell him to stop his scathing reaction now. But what he said was completely different.

“How do you remember me?”

“What?”

This time Chase frowned. Only then did Josh realize what he had said. Chase just looked at him without saying a word. Again, he can avoid responding. Maybe not a big reason, so he just let it slide. Although he remembered some reasonable speculations, Josh wanted Chase to confirm it.

Then Chase looked at him without saying a word. If I tell you that my dream was the reason I remembered your face, I’m sure you will look at me in bewilderment. Chase frowned when he saw Josh’s face silently waiting for an answer. So far, those eyes have been experienced countless times. This time it won’t be so different. While thinking that, Chase didn’t want to answer Josh’s questions with an explanation. If he says that, he is also talking about his dreams, but why should he show so much kindness?

From the dream of the other person that I can’t even remember his face. Chase bit his lip and narrowed his eyes. The memory was still hazy. Even then and even now, he couldn’t be sure of anything. Above all, why does he suddenly dream of something that happened a few years ago? Chase tossed his hair annoyingly. It’s just a dog’s dream. When he decided that way, he suddenly heard howls not far away. At that moment, Chase’s face hardened and Josh reflexively turned to check his surroundings. There were other beings besides them. In the hideous form of life that was felt throughout his body, Josh carefully surveyed his presence. It took him some time to recognize them. The identities of about 10 animals were soon revealed with their eyes glowing with their tense bodies in the dark like Josh. It was a bunch of coyotes.

Unless a chapter’s been missed, it seemed the author forgot to write an entire chapter between the events of this one and the previous one.
